Dysregulation

Sometimes even with our best support in place, our students will experience moments where they “flip their lid.” This refers to instances when students become verbally or physically aggressive, shutdown/withdraw, or are unable to receive and take in our support. In these times, it is important to shift from trying to problem-solve to offering time, space and needed support for the student to re-establish adequate self-regulation. The goal becomes to re-establish safety for all before proceeding with the next steps of intervention.
